In the Summer of 2015 work was completed on the Lumb Viaduct which allowed Sustrans to create a walking and cycling route along the bridge. Work to rebuild the structure of the embankment was carried out over the previous 12 months and on approval of planning permission a tarmacadam surface was put down, followed by the installation of a new drainage system. The next phase of the project involves Sustrans lengthening the route across the viaduct a further 600m north to Iron gate Lane which will be linked to the National Cycle Network route 6.
